Daxton's Birth Story {part 1}

After weeks (quite literally) of anticipation over meeting our little guy, I'm so happy to finally be able to share an actual birth story with you all! Here are all the details of his grand arrival....

As most of you already know my labor was rather strange this time, with us thinking that from all the signs he would actually be born early. Needless to say once contractions and other symptoms dragged on for days (or more specifically weeks) I was more than a little tired and frustrated with not knowing when it was really going to happen! There were so many times it seemed like actual labor had finally set in only to have it gradually slow down a few hours later, leaving me in an almost constant state of exhaustion since it happened alot at night. Not to mention more than a little sore!

Went on like that until my "official" guess date that we were going by which was the 23rd. I was due for a check-up on the same day if I hadn't had him yet so we had discussed me just coming in later in the evening and doing some things to help labor along possibly. I was already contracting a good bit again and figured some oils, herbs, etc just might be what I needed to get things going! Blake and I drove up and stayed a few hours while trying a couple things the midwives recommended. We ended up going out to Wal-mart but having to come back because my contractions got so strong and close together with all the walking after taking the herbs and rubbing oil on my stomach. But after thinking this was really going to be the day they once again got further apart and didn't really do a lot beyond me dialating 1/2 a centimeter after all that time. We decided to just go home and wait it out. Again. I was so tired of it all but also so determined to just let him come when he was good and ready!

On Friday I was worn out and hurting a lot from the day before so just tried to take it easy around the house. Still hoping that things would get started for real before long. I actually ended up not having too many contractions that day though and went to bed discouraged over feeling so bad with no end results of a baby in sight. I just kept thinking that if I got any more tired that I wouldn't have enough strength to even labor well, much less feel like taking care of a newborn afterwards! But since I was dialated to about a 4 and his head was very far down before leaving on Thursday I knew something surely had to happen in the near future so I tried to remember that and keep my hopes up. That was sometimes easier said than done though, of course. Y'all know how those pregnancy hormones and emotions can be!

Okay, sorry to leave you hanging but since this is already a long post I'll have to finish the story later. :-)

*Stay tuned for the rest of the story soon!*

No News Is......

....not always good news! At least not around here the past few days. :-( I'm seriously trying to keep my spirits up and not be too discouraged but it's been a little hard. Let me back up and give a few details though.

Thursday was a midwife checkup, which went pretty well overall and let us know I'm definitely making progress with some of these contractions. In fact, the midwife said she thinks it will go very quickly once things set it and even coached Blake on what to do if we ended up needing to deliver on the way! (I wasn't sure if I should be amused, excited, or scared to death! haha)

From the checkup, Blake and I had decided to drive to a car lot in Franklin, TN to look at vans for sale. We ended up choosing to sale our old one and get something new and really wanted to have that done before the baby came. Needless to say it was a loooong day but thankfully we were able to get a good deal on a vehicle!

My parents were planning to watch the kids for the day and do something fun while we were gone. The girls had both showed signs of what I thought was allergies for a couple days before that and with the weed pollen count high around here I figured that's all it was. Delancey had seemed a little worse that morning but still wanted to go and I assumed she would clear up as the day went on like she had been. By that night they were both worse though and she even had a fever! Ugh. The rest of us have slowly come down with sore throats, sneezing, congestion, headaches, fever, etc ever since so it's definitely not been fun around here.

I just woke up with it during the night on top of having some really strong contractions since yesterday evening. Let's just say that sleep isn't something I'm getting alot of these days. I had been thinking that maybe it was a good thing Daxton hasn't come yet since it would be nice not to have sick kiddos with a new baby in the house. But I have to admit that me getting sick too wasn't really something I wanted or needed right now!

My contractions are still irregular most of the time but getting much harder, so along with all the other signs I've had I know it can't be much longer. I still can't believe how long I've been having this prelabor stuff and to be honest it's getting more than a little old. Being so tired though and not knowing how long it's going to take for us all to get over this cold (or whatever it is), it's hard not to be stressed with it all. Prayers would definitely be appreciated for quick healing for all of us, strength for me as the baby gets ready to get here, and for me to trust that God has it all under control. Especially when I feel like everything is just falling apart!

Okay, so there's my not so great update for the week. :-/ Hopefully I will have much better news to report soon, but until then please keep us in your prayers! Being almost 40 weeks pregnant, sick, constantly dealing with irregular contractions that could turn into the real thing any time, and taking care of 3 sick kiddos is just a little overwhelming right now. I know God is able to give me grace though and all of this too shall pass eventually.

Hanging in There!

Well, y'all, I've gotta say that it seems crazy for a whole week to have passed since the goings on last Saturday. And still NO baby!! To be honest I am tired and a little discouraged with it all (since I'm having at least one spell every day or night that seems like it's gonna be the real thing, including over 3 hours of hard contractions last night that got 3 minutes apart!), but I'm still determined to just wait this little guy out and let him come when he's ready. After all, we made it 11 days over my guess date with Darcey so I'm pretty sure I can make it a few more this time. :-)

If I was guessing I would probably say I don't think it'll be quite that much longer this time, but then again there's no sure way of knowing these kinds of things! I'm definitely having all of the signs of early labor though so the good thing about that is hopefully things will go super quick once the active phase kicks in. My biggest challenge has been not getting any rest but we are focusing on taking some natural stuff and doing things to help me sleep and the past couple  of nights have been a little better in that area. It will nice to not be so worn out for when I do deliver! The other thing that I think may be effecting things is he seems to be flipping from anterior to posterior position a lot, which seems to cause the contractions to start or stop at certain times. Trying to stay on my hands and knees and rubbing essential peppermint oil on my lower back to encourage him to stay in the right place.(yes, it actually does work!) Hopefully he will do so when it's time to actually have him. I'm not too keen on delivering another "sunny side up" baby this time like I did on #2! Ouch!

As for other stuff, the uti/kidney infection looks totally cleared up. (yay!) My blood sugar is still challenging but manageable as long as I'm careful with what I eat. Everything else seems to be doing well, other than just not knowing why my uterus is contracting so much every day. There could be lots of explanations for that though so probably something we won't be able to figure out for sure. It can be annoying and I am super sore a lot of the time, but I'm just trying to not let it get me too discouraged. Which I accomplish better some days than others for sure!

Here's a picture of me Thursday at my 38 week checkup. In all my big belly glory! Please keep praying for health and strength for us both and that I'll just keep hanging in there until it's time for this little guy to make his grand entrance! After last weekend I'm wondering how he's ever going to manage a more dramatic one?! lol Maybe my next update will be that he's finally here. One can always hope anyway. :-)

What a Weekend!

To say things have been a little crazy around here the past couple of days would be a total understatement! Here's a little rundown on what we've had going on around here.

On Friday Blake took off work to help get some things done around the house since we were planning an early birthday party for Dathan. (his is only 2 days before the baby is due so we were thinking doing it now would be better just in case) I had some contractions off and on but just contributed it to being on my feet more. That night I ended up with back pain and nausea on top of the irregular contractions that were still happening. Needless to say I didn't really get much sleep.

On Saturday we got up and went ahead with plans for the party although I felt like something was a little off but just wasn't sure if I was feeling real labor symptoms or just end of pregnancy uncomfortableness. (is that a word??) Anyway, the closer it got to the party time the closer and harder my contractions become until about 30 minutes after it had started they were 5 minutes apart. I also felt crampy, still had nausea and then diarrhea (which I've never done in labor before?), and just overall active labor symptoms. I called the midwife and we decided it would be good for us to head that way just to see what was going on. So we packed a couple of bags and left our company here having a party while we headed to TN! Thankfully it was all family so it was no big deal for them to just be here by themselves and they were totally understanding that we had to leave. :-)

On the way there (which is about a 50 min drive) my contractions were 3 minutes apart so we were like, wow this is really it! They weren't horribly painful but uncomfortable enough that they felt real. It's typical for mine to not get terribly bad til right before the end anyway so it seemed likely this one was going the same way. We got there and she checked us both out a little, then did a urine test. She wasn't totally pleased with a couple things but wanted me to drink some water and do another one since I seemed to be dehydrated. I was only dilated to a 2 but the baby was at a little more than 0 station and I was very effaced so we still figured things would go pretty quickly if my contractions kept up. After doing the next test she confirmed that I had a slight uti/kidney infection and we needed to start me on antibiotics immediately. I did that and also started drinking tons of water. The contractions slowed to 5 minutes apart but were still consistent and hard enough they seemed to be doing something.

After waiting a couple more hours the contractions became a little more irregular so we decided to head home for a little while and try to rest in our own beds and just see what happened. It was a long night again for me with still feeling labor symptoms and not able to get much rest. I'm still drinking alot and taking strong antibiotics to hit the infection before it becomes more serious. At this point we aren't entirely certain if the combination of infection, dehydration, etc is what triggered the labor or not. Since it hasn't entirely stopped yet it's looking like maybe it's just getting close for him to come but we are kinda just having to wait and see.

The plan for now is to take some doses of magnesium (which can slow or stop labor) in order to give my uterus a break and hopefully allow me to get some rest for when it really kicks in again. I'm trying to just take it easy and go with the flow for now, although that can be a little hard with how I'm feeling at the moment. Prayers for wisdom and most of all strength are very much appreciated. I know he will come at the perfect time even if it doesn't look exactly like we planned or thought so I'm trying to just not to worry and let the Lord take care of it! To be honest, I am really hoping that this doesn't go on for several more days since I'm already so tired and sore but then again I would probably feel a little more comfortable for Daxton's sake if he had more time to grow and get stronger.

I will try to keep you all updated with any changes over the next few days and please keep me and this baby boy in your prayers. We are so excited to meet him soon!

                                          Tyra

ps. I think I forgot to mention that I was 3 cm before leaving last night so the contractions were making some progress....just slowly. Also, I'm only 37 wks and 3 days so that is pretty early for me since the other 3 have come late. This one may be totally different though so now we will just wait and see how it goes from here! :-) I'm also linked up to My Joy Filled Life again so be sure and click through to see to read all the other pregnancy updates.

36 Week Update

Can't believe how close we're getting to meeting this little boy! Some days it has definitely seemed like the pregnancy would be never ending but now that I'm so far along it seems crazy that he's almost here. So exciting (and a little scary too) though! Here's what's been going on the past week or so with me and him.....

~ I'm 36 weeks and 3 days. Just a few more days to go until I'm considered "full-term" and able to deliver safely at the birthing house!

~ Having a good many contractions and lots of pressure, etc these days. It's hard to tell if this is just normal, getting ready kinda of stuff that may last awhile longer or I'm actually getting close to the real thing. I'm trying to prepare myself for either way but to be honest it would be nice to know for sure!

~ I love my midwife and am so glad we chose to change care providers, even so late in the pregnancy. Can't wait to see what kind of experience this delivery is going to be with her.

~ Still dealing with the blood sugar issues, allergies, and other health stuff. It's pretty rough some days but just trying to hang in there for now. Prayers for strength to make it these last couple of weeks are appreciated and that I will feel good when actually going into labor.

~ After having 3 kids born with extreme allergies, reflux/stomach issues, and mulitple other health problems it is extremely hard not to worry that Daxton will be the same way. Our babies tend to be in alot of pain, cry almost constantly, struggle to sleep, have to be kept home so as not to be exposed to things, unable to breastfeed, need to wear special clothing, and too many other things to name! It's challenging and heartbreaking to care for them as infants and of course the fact that I still have older ones who struggle with issues just adds to that stress as well. We've been praying that the Lord would be merciful and allow Daxton to not suffer from as many health problems as the rest of us but know that the answer to that may not be yes. Prayers for a miracle are welcome and definitely for us to be able to trust that things will be okay no matter what. We will need God's grace and strength for sure in the days to come! I hope to be able to report a "happy-ending" story to this eventually but know that even if I don't get to that God's grace will be sufficient....just like it has been before. I have to be honest and say that my flesh wants things to be easier and different this time though. Mostly for Daxton's sake, but the rest of the family's too.

~ Bought some of the bigger baby stuff we needed yesterday so it's nice to have that taken care of. Can't wait to see what all goodies I get at my shower tomorrow night!

~ Baby is kicking like crazy and feels like he doesn't have alot of room left in there. (although I'm secretly hoping he isn't too big!) The kids still love to see and feel him. We're all getting more excited to for him to get here. :-)

~ Got my hair cut several inches last week. I'm still trying to get used to it but think it's going to be easier to deal with for awhile so that is definitely a plus!

~ My next appointment is Thursday so I may be back to update after that. Kinda interested to see what they say about my progress!

~ Last but not least is a picture of the gown my mom surprised me with to wear during labor and/or after. It's super cute and I can't wait to use it! I will definitely have to post a pic of me while wearing it too. Speaking of pictures, I haven't managed to take many of myself these days for some reason. I'm posting one of myself (and our sweet little girl) in a maternity dress I ordered and then couldn't decide if I liked since it's the only recent one I have! (pretty sure I'm returning it at this point but I guess that part doesn't matter. lol)

So anyway there's the latest news and here are the pictures......

Praise, Prayers, and Pregnancy

The morning of my midwife checkup started out pretty normal and routine. Got up early (can anyone say "pregnancy insomnia"?!) and had a snack to keep my sugar level okay. Had some quiet time before the kiddos woke up then fixed breakfast and got everyone ready to go. The checkup was great (more on that in a minute) and we all enjoyed getting to see the midwives again. Seriously, it is the best thing ever to have such a more personal experience than you get with using a doctor. After hearing the baby's heartbeat she held the doppler on Darcey's chest so she could hear hers too. So fun! Then the kids mentioned being hungry before we left so she gave them all snacks and juice for the trip home. How awesome is that??!!

So anyway we head for home and make a quick stop at Kroger for a couple of things before driving through the main part of town. Traffic was heavy and we have to pass by the hospital which means there are almost always ambulances to watch out for. While coming up on the last intersection of that area I saw one pulling up to the red light to the right of me but didn't think it had its' lights on. (it could have and I just didn't notice when glancing over) It suddenly flashed them and sounded the siren at the same time obviously letting us know we should stop even though our light was green. The person in front of me went on through and although my stop was kinda last minute and meant I was going to go over the line a little I felt like I shouldn't just ignore him inching out there and keep going. About 5 seconds after we came to a stop and the ambulance was about to cross in front of us we were whammed from behind! Talk about scary!!

Thankfully no one was seriously hurt other than Delancey getting a small bump on her head from hitting the thing on the bottom of the head rest. We aren't sure about the damage to the van yet but at the moment our rear door refuses to open so that's a little frustrating to deal with. But we know vans can be fixed or replaced so are choosing to just be glad everyone's safe and praising God it wasn't any worse! Prayers for the insurance issues to be resolved quickly so we can hopefully make a decision before the baby comes is appreciated.

Now on to the pregnancy news which I will try to be short with since this post is already so long. :-)

~ I am 35 weeks 2 days.

~ The baby's position is still great and his head has dropped down even further. Yay!

~ Having contractions off and on most days and especially at night. I'm thinking I've made a little progress already but that's normal for me around this time. Just getting things ready for the big day!

~ Everything looked great other than a very slight amount of ketones in my urine. They thought it was probably due to my diet more than anything and encouraged me to eat more if I could and definitely drink more. I'm pretty much floating from all the water I'm having these days! lol

~ I've gained about 25 lbs total which is a little less than the other times so far but I weighed more starting out so it ends up about the same I guess.

~ Trying to get some things done and tie up loose ends before he gets here. I still can't believe it's going to be so soon! I'm so looking forward to meeting him and also very excited to see what kind of experience this birth will be with my lovely midwives. Something else I'm excited about is some ladies we met through our homeschool group offering to give me a baby shower! Gonna be so much fun getting to celebrate with them before he arrives.

I think that's about it for now. Prayers for mine and the baby's health are always appreciated as well as for my other children (especially Dathan) who have alot of health issues going on at the moment that are challenging to deal with. I'll post more about that seperately though so I can end this short story for now! :-) I'm linking up over at My Joy Filled Life again this week so don't forget to click through and read about the other pregnant mommas too. Until next time....

33 Weeks....and Counting!

Time for another update on the pregnancy! It's been fun linking up with another blog and following along with other moms' journeys this time. Be sure to click over to Sarah's blog, here to read how everyone else is progressing too. (some of those ladies should be delivering any day) And I should say a BIG thank-you to her for hosting the link up as well! :-)

Here's what's new around here since last week....

~ My checkup with the midwife went pretty well. The baby is head down already (woo-hoo!) and the heartbeat sounded great. A couple of my urine levels were a little off, but I really wasn't terribly surprised since we'd had a few rough days and this heat has been awful! The fact that the day before was a holiday didn't help any either. I was dehydrated (oops) and hadn't kept my glucose levels quite as in check as needed so I've really been working on those two things since then.
The ups and downs with my blood sugar can be frustrating and it's hard not to be discouraged with it some days. Prayers for it to be more regulated and for me to have wisdom on what's best to eat are greatly appreciated! I look forward to seeing how things are improved at my next checkup.

~ I've been having some nightly contractions already but that's pretty common for me at this point. Although I know in some ways it's good for my body to prepare itself for the actual labor it can get a little tiresome considering that I do it for several weeks before the real thing. I'm really hoping to not go over my guess date quite as much this time since my health isn't the best but trying to just trust that he will come when he's ready! I will definitely be doing all the natural stuff to help it along I can as it gets closer to time though. :-)

~ Having a hard time emotionally as the actual birth gets near with worry about the baby's health. I plan to do a more detailed post about our past experiences and give some specific prayer requests about that but until then please just pray that I would "cast all my care upon Him"!

~ As for the discussion question about names, we don't really have any certain way to pick one other than them starting with the same letter. (which wasn't planned on purpose to begin with!) Our first two I had actually found and liked before even getting married and they happened to both begin with "D". We then picked out middle names we liked to go with them, but didn't base it on meaning or anything, just what we thought sounded good. When pregnant with our 3rd we decided it would be kinda sad to leave her out of the whole "D" thing so we searched until we found one beginning with that letter that we liked. The funny thing is that I looked up the meaning after she was born and it totally applies to her! (it means dark-hair/skin and she's the only one out of the 3 who has that coloring. lol) We actually had the name picked out for this one with our 2nd since we weren't sure if it was a boy or girl until after she was born. Super excited that we finally get to use it after all these years! And of course looking forward to finding out how crazy life in 4-D will be. :-)

32 Week Pregnancy Update!

Linking up again today with Sarah at My Joy Filled Life for the pregnancy updates. Be sure to click the picture below to read some of the other stories! Now onto the latest news....

My Joy-Filled Life

I haven't posted an update for a couple of weeks but there's not really a whole lot to share at this point. I'll try to just give a quick run-down and share a picture of my humongous cute, little belly at the end. :-)

How far along: I'm 32 weeks 4 days.

Scripture on my mind: "Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass." Psalm 37:5
We are seeking the Lord's will for our lives in several areas right now so this verse has really been on my heart the past few days. Not to mention that it helps me to remember that I need to trust Him with pregnancy, health stuff, and whatever else going on too!

Baby's growth and movement: He is definitely a busy little thing lately! The family is loving being able to see my stomach move into all kinds of weird shapes. lol He's gotten so big that it can be a little painful at times but I know that's just normal for this far along. According to several websites he should be around 4 lbs and 19 inches. And he feels at least that big to me!

Cravings: Having a hard time with not eating sweets since I'm trying to keep my blood sugar in check. I've splurged a few times but have to be careful to get some protein as well. And sometimes regardless of what I eat it seems to just flunctuate anyway! The midwife says my levels still aren't really bad but it can still make me feel yucky.

Medical Stuff: Nothing new to report there really. (although the blood sugar info could probably have went here instead of on the cravings spot. lol) I ended up missing my midwife appointment last week so I won't see her until this Thursday. I think things are going pretty well though. I'm still struggling with allergies to the chemicals around here so that's hard. I would probably feel pretty good if it wasn't for that since other than normal pregnancy issues I seem okay.

Something I look forward to: I'm more than ready to be done with the pregnancy and meet the baby of course. Also, hoping for some answers to the prayers I had mentioned earlier!

Discussion question: (how do you plan on managing pain during labor and delivery?) I'm planning another natural delivery this time, which I've had 2 out of 3 times so far. I actually don't get terribly uncomfortable during labor until closer to the end so just walking around, breathing, taking a bath, etc works fine with the pain. The last 30 min to an hour can get pretty intense but I usually just try to focus on the contractions, breathe through them, and squeeze my husband's hand super hard. haha Both of my natural births have been a little chaotic in nature so I really wasn't able to relax for the pushing like I wanted but I'm hoping to have a better experience with that this time. I didn't handle the pain very well and pretty much just yell-moaned through the pushing. Thankfully I only pushed about 3-4 times before the babies came out so it didn't last long. I plan on discussing all this with the midwives more as the time gets closer. I'm hoping they'll have some good tips for me!

And last but not least is the latest picture of the belly. I think this was taken right when I turned 32 weeks or maybe 1 day after. We are definitely growing! :-)

(as a side note, this is a shirt I got from Motherhood during my last pregnancy and it's one of my favorites! So comfy! Really wish I had several of them in different colors.)

Pregnancy Update Week 30

Photobucket

Linking up again with Sarah for the pregnancy updates. Be sure to click through the picture above to read about other stories!

~ I'm 30 weeks and 1 day. (although I should probably change that since I really think my due date is later and I tend to go over anyway!)

~ Had my first official check-up with the midwife since we decided to switch care. Everything looked great with the baby and Blake and I were both impressed with how they answered our questions, etc. Very excited to be having another "homebirth" experience!

~ Not sure about weight gain since I really don't keep up with it much here at home. I'm measuring right on schedule baby wise though. Although, according to alot of horribly rude um, well-meaning people I look huge and could possibly even be having triplets by the size of my stomach. Seriously?! Do women honestly think those kind of comments (which there have been a ton of this pregnancy!) are appropriate?? Thankfully I've managed so far just to smile sweetly and reply with a "this is just how I look because I'm short" type of answer and leave it at that. Now my thoughts were a different story but we won't go there at the moment. lol Okay, I'm off my rant for now. :-)

~ I'm struggling with not feeling good alot of days. Not really sure how much is pregnancy related and how much is from our allergies. We have MCS and they are spraying the crops around here lately so it's throwing us for a loop! My blood sugar is still a challenge most days although I'm managing to keep it in a pretty good range. I'd rather not have the added stress of having to eat so strictly but I know it's good for me and the baby right now. I know things really could be alot worse health wise so I'm trying to be thankful for that rather than focus on the bad.

~ Glad to be in the 3rd trimester and SO ready to be finished with the pregnancy and meet this little guy! The kids are excited as well, with Delancey requesting that she be allowed at the birth since we're using a midwife. We aren't too sure about that part though! I'm thinking she would do okay til the end and start freaking out over my other-worldly screams during pushing. haha Not sure what the actual plan for the kiddos going with us will end up being but I guess we have a few more weeks to decide.

~ In answer to this week's discussion questions: we have decided not to have any more biological children after this one. Between my health and the health problems all of our babies/children deal with it is huge struggle to add pregnancy on top of all of that. With us also trying to homeschool we feel that I can better care for everything, including the 4 children God's already blessed us with, without continuing to have more. I know alot of people feel that means you aren't trusting God, accepting His gift of children, or even are actually disobeying His commandment but we choose to look at it like being responsible for the gifts we have rather than allowing the fear of doing wrong be the only reason we have more. Also, the whole "be fruitful and multiply" and "having a quiverfull" ideas are kinda debatable in my opinion since there's no actual number mentioned....amoung other things. But that's probably a discussion for a whole 'nother post! :-)

That's all for now though. Please be praying for our health as me and the other 3 children are having a hard time right now. That also causes me to worry about the health of the baby when he's born since we tend to have alot of issues right from the start. Trying to trust that God will take care of it all!

Update and Outfit!

Wow, I can't believe another week has passed already! (although I will admit a few of the days did drag by a little since I wasn't feeling well) I actually have a couple other posts in the works but just never finished them so I guess I'll go ahead with another pregnancy update. Seems that's about all I'm getting around to posting these days. Also wanted to include a picture to share about my outfit and let you see how humongously big I've gotten much the baby's grown! :-) Check out the links at the bottom to see who I'm linking up with today as well. Now onto the latest news....

I am now in my 3rd trimester which means I'm a little over 28 weeks along! Woo-hoo! Part of me is amazed that we'll be having another baby in just (approximately) 12 weeks and then another part of me is thinking that day will never get here. Yep, I'm definitely in the last trimester I think. Ha!

The biggest news to share today is that we have officially decided to change from OB to midwife and deliver not at the hospital but a birthing house! I'm so excited to have the opportunity for another "home" birth and can't wait to see what kind of experience we have this time. :-)

That being said, this also somewhat changes the type of care and treatments we will be doing the rest of the time which thankfully includes no 3 hour glucose test! I am being very careful with my eating now though and keeping a check on my sugar levels here at home. Prayers for it to stay regulated are very much appreciated since it tends to make me feel awful when it flunctuates. The awesome thing is that my midwife is very knowledgeable in this area herself, not only from training but because she is actually a diabetic as well. I was very encouraged just from talking with her!

As for other issues, most are still pretty much the same. Pregnancy isn't normally very easy on me physically so I'm not entirely surprised to be having some problems but it can definitely be hard to deal with at times (especially needing to care for the other kiddos) so prayers for grace and strength are my daily routine at the moment. I'm greatly hoping to finish out this pregnancy without any more major issues and that my own health won't adversely affect the baby. I will be writing more about that later and asking specific prayers for after he is born but for now just praying that God's will is done for us both and that I am able to trust He's taking care of it would be great!

Now on to the picture. This was taken last week so I was one day away from being 28 weeks.

~ I found this shirt on sale at Motherhood Maternity and loved the color. I would prefer a little looser fit but if you've tried looking at any maternity clothes lately you'll know that is something hard to find!
~ The scarf came from Target (another sale item!) and I thought it went perfect with the shirt. I've also worn it with a white blouse as well so it's nice to be able to use it with more than one thing.
~ This skirt isn't actually maternity and I can't even remember where I got it at the moment since it's been a few years. (sorry!) It's one of the bubble skirts and has a stretchy waist so can still be worn underneath my growing belly.
Overall I'm pretty pleased with how this outfit turned out. It isn't always easy finding things that fit and are modest so it's always fun to have something you like while pregnant!

So there's my update and outfit post for the week. Looking forward to these next few weeks going by and hopefully getting some things done before Daxton arrives! I will be updating until then though so stay tuned. :-)

Another Pregnancy Update!

Photobucket

Maybe it's just me but it seems like the days between doing these posts are flying by! (of course I have been late in writing some of them so that could be why?) Anyway, here's a couple new things going on with me and Daxton. :-)

How far along: I am 25 weeks, 5 days today. (according to the doctor's guess date)

Weight gain/loss: While I am definitely sure to be in the gain department I haven't even been keeping up with it much here at home. My appointment is next week so guess we will see how I did then. Personally I feel so much bigger this pregnancy, especially in the hips/behind area, but I think that's just because I had some left over weight from last time compared to my other pregnancies.

Symptoms/Medical Stuff: My allergies have been a killer recently and I'm not sleeping too well. Also, I started therapy yesterday since I have some pretty major hip/low back issues that have started interferring with my every day activities. As of right now I'm just sore but really hoping that it will help after going a few times. On a more comical note, my last couple of pregnancies I have gotten more clumsy for some reason and that is totally kicking in right now. Thankfully I haven't dropped anything too important. Yet. Does anyone else do that while expecting?

Prayer Requests: Better health and strength for me as I finish out the pregnancy. Some relief from these allergies would help SO much I think as well as being able to rest better. My glucose test is next week so I'm hoping to pass that. I'm also looking ahead to discussing the kind of birth experience I want with my doctor and the hospital soon so please pray that goes well. I know just having it planned is only the first step and there are no guarantees it will go that way, but I think it will be good to have a plan and then just try to trust the Lord to take care of the rest!

Thoughts from the family: The kids like asking about if he's moving, feeling him, and even telling him goodnight sometimes. It's sweet! Darcey of course isn't sure what all is going on but she will point to my stomach and say baby since she's heard the rest of us talk about it so much. Fun!

Discussion question: Who will be attending the birth? Actually we aren't totally settled on this question at the moment. Obviously my husband will be there and since I'm doing a hospital birth this time it will also be the nurses and doctor but I haven't decided if we may want to hire a doula or not as well. I plan on trying to stay home as long as possible so there might not be a need for someone else being there for extra support, but it's hard to say since we won't really know how things are going to go until it happens! I will definitely keep you update on this decision though.

Well, there's the update for this week! Look forward to next week since I'll have some new info after the checkup. Be sure to click the button at the top to visit the link and read about other ladies who are expecting! :-)

Traveling Pregnant, Swimwear, and Other Things

We are finally home after a fun, crazy, loooong trip to Florida! It was nice making memories with the family but let me just say that traveling while pregnant isn't the easiest (or most comfortable) thing in the world. It's nice to be back and spend the day just trying to rest up! I thought I'd share a few things about my pregnancy during the trip this past week, show a picture of my modest, maternity swimwear and whatever else comes to mind. :-)
I'm linking up with a couple different places today as well so be sure to check those out at the end of the post if you want to read some other good blogs too!

First off is a picture of me at the beach where we spent a couple of days. Cute, modest swimwear is hard to find anytime and of course pregnancy only adds to that but I was pretty pleased with this outfit I came up with. The top is a maternity one from Target that I got on sale during my last pregnancy but ended up not using since it was intended for when I would possibly be having a water-birth and that didn't happen. I did choose to wear a black tank top underneath since the back is a little low-cut and I wanted to be more covered. Also the straps were originally unattached and intended to be tied around the neck but I just sewed them on straight since I liked that better than the halter style. The skirt is one I got from Wal-mart last year that is made from swimsuit material. I love it! I've worn the matching bottoms to the swimsuit (which are longish, maternity swimshorts) or just some longer speedo type shorts underneath. Whatever you're comfortable with works! So anyway here's my maternity swimwear.....

Now on to some pregnancy updates for the week:

My dysautonomia symptoms flared up alot on the trip since it was super hot in Florida and my body doesn't regulate it's temperature well. Add all the walking around we did on top of that and my feet were feeling pretty painful at times. Plus just the general pelvic pain/pressure from being up and doing more and sleeping on a different bed made things a little uncomfortable most days. But I made it and didn't do too bad really all things considered.

No particular food cravings at the moment that I can think of. I did want cold stuff to drink and preferred to eat kinda light at times on the trip since we were out in the heat so much.  Oh, I did have an unusual craving for peanut m&m's one day which I did indulge in but kinda regretted afterwards. I can definitely tell that I rarely eat those kind of foods anymore! Actually eating lighter stuff and having fruit, smoothies, etc still sounds pretty good most of the time. I should definitely take advantage of that and eat that kind of stuff since it would be so good for me!

I am pretty much totally in maternity shirts now I guess, although I still have a few skirts I can wear that have some give or elastic in the waist. And maybe a few t-shirts that aren't too fitted. Maternity clothes are definitely the most comfy thing for me now! Which leads me to the fact that I feel and look huge even though I still haven't gained just tons of weight. I really can't imagine growing for 15 more weeks like this but I guess I will get to find out just how much I do in the next few months! :-)

I am starting to look forward to buying some baby stuff and get more ready for this baby's arrival. Also, planning a trip to tour the hospital we plan on giving birth in this time to discuss natural birth options, etc so I'm excited to see how that goes. We would love to do a home birth if it was legal to hire a midwife here but since it isn't we can still hopefully get the best natural birth possible in the hospital.

As for the discussion question about fears on the pregnancy link-up, I think the Lord really helped me deal with alot of fear during my last pregnancy. It was mostly due to health issues for me and the baby. And although I do still occasionally have those same fears this time as well I try to just pray about them and trust the Lord to take care of things. Since I'm not really in control of any of it anyway! I love the verse in Timothy about fear not coming from God and also a verse in Colossians that says to let the peace of God rule in our hearts. It helps me to remind myself that after I pray that I still need to work to just not worry and allow His peace to rule in my heart and mind.

Hope you all enjoyed reading another update! I can't wait to keep on counting down this pregnancy and also posting more pics of the outfits I come up with. Until next time...

Pregnancy Update

Since I was wanting to do an update on how the pregnancy is going and had an invite to a link-up as well I figured it would work out to just use the same post for both! Be sure to click through the link at the bottom if you want to read about some other moms pregnancy journeys as well. And thanks to Sarah for this fun idea!

How far along: As of today I am 23 weeks and 5 days. My guess date is August 23, 2012. (I like saying guess date since when the baby actually comes or is due is usually so unpredictable in my case! lol)

Baby's Growth/Movement:  He is approximately 12 inches now and weighs about a pound. It's amazing that something that small can pack such a huge kick but boy does he ever! I love feeling and seeing him move around in there though. He's supposed to be hearing more sounds now to get him used to all the noise after being born. Let's hope it works since things are rarely quiet around here!

Gender/Name: Since some of you may be reading for the first time I will add that it's a boy and his name is Daxton Judah. :-)

Medical Stuff/Symptoms/Prayer Requests: I have something called dysautonomia which gets worse during pregnancy so that's a little hard to deal with at times. It causes tachycardia, low blood pressure, shortness of breath, dizziness, tiredness, and sometimes swelling, achy, burning feet and ankles....especially in the heat. (which is a given here in the south this time of year!) I also have severe allergies to lots of things so with both of those along with "normal" pregnancy issues there can be some rough days. Prayers for health and strength during the rest of the pregnancy would be greatly appreciated!

Weight GainStretch Marks/: I've gained a total of 9 pounds (give or take a few ounces. lol) since the beginning of pregnancy. 4 of those being in the past four weeks! Really hoping that doesn't become the pattern in the time I have left, although that would actually end up being less total than what I've gained in my other pregnancies. But I did keep about 10 pounds after our last so that has made a huge difference this time in how I feel and look! I don't seem to be getting any more stretch marks so far other than the ones I've had since my first baby. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Cravings/Aversions: I tend to crave both sweet and salty things at different times I think. Not really anything at this particular time that I just have to have or can't stand now that the all-day morning sickness is over with. Thank goodness!

Sleep/Emotions: I tend to have some sleep issues due to my other health problems anyway so to be honest I don't always get much rest during pregnancy. Which of course tends to make it harder not to be more irritable, tired, etc during the day. We're hanging in there though. Maybe I will catch up somewhat before he gets here cause goodness knows I probably won't get extra afterwards! :-)

Clothes: Mostly in maternity now although I do still have a few regular skirts with elastic and shirts with a little give that work for me. Since I try to dress modestly whether pregnant or not it can sometimes be challenging to find cute clothes, but it's definitely worth the extra work to look nice and not show off too much skin. ;-) Haven't taken any new pics recently but will try to post some next time!

Best Moment This Week: Finding out that my placenta previa had totally moved where it needs to be on its own! Definitely praising the Lord for answered prayer with that. I really did not want to worry about all the complications that can bring with it or especially having a c-section.

What I Miss/Look Forward To:  I really miss being able to hold our 18 month old easily in my lap and also not feeling like doing much with the older kiddos. I look forward to having another baby boy since our oldest is 8. Along with lots of other things of course!

So there's my pregnancy update for this week. Whew, that was alot of information! :-) Hope you enjoy reading though and I look forward to browsing the other link-ups too.

Maternity Outfits

I don't normally do link-ups since this is mainly just a family blog, but after seeing the Modest Mom's post on facebook about how she'd like more people to write about modesty, wearing skirts, etc then I figured I would join in! (I'm thinking that might have been a run-on sentence? lol)
Anyway, I'm not great at taking pictures of myself but since I'm pregnant we have snapped a couple recently that I thought would work for sharing. Maternity clothes (especially cute, modest ones) are pretty hard to find but maybe this post will give you some idea of things to try. I'm 23 weeks right now and still able to do some outfits that aren't technically maternity so that's what these are. I'll try to take more pictures and share again in the coming weeks when I get more into the actual maternity wear! For now here are the ones I have....

This first one is a skirt I bought last year at Burlington Coat Factory and a shirt I've had for awhile now that came from New York and Company. The skirt has an elastic waist so it still fits okay under my growing belly. :) And the shirt is stretchy cotton so there was a little give in it as well, plus it's longer so everything stays covered! (as a side note, the cami underneath isn't quite as high up as I would like....I think my stomach being larger pulled it down more and I didn't realize it until after I wore it for awhile. It didn't show cleavage or anything which is my main concern but would have been nicer if it covered more of my chest I think!)

This second one is super comfy which is great right now of course. Both pieces actually came from Target but I bought them at different times and they just ended up working together. I have a belt that I normally wear with this outfit but it doesn't work very well around my belly at the moment! :) The skirt has the fold-down band at the waist and I think it is probably going to work for most of my pregnancy since there's alot of give there. I did go up a size in this because the material tends to cling a little if it's too tight so I wanted plenty of room. The shirt once again is just cotton and stretchy as well as having good length so it is perfect for growing into.

I like that I'm still able to wear some of my "regular" clothes this far along in the pregnancy. I'm already wearing a few maternity outfits as well but just haven't gotten pictures of them yet. Hope this helped some of you with ideas on how to wear skirts and/or dress modestly during pregnancy! Be sure to click through the link above to see all the other posts on the link-up. :-)

Momma News

Since my post yesterday turned into the longest one ever I figured I would just share about what else we found out during the u/s separately. (which I bet ya'll are thankful for after all that reading! haha)
As I said, the baby looked great and seems to be just fine but she saw what looked like my placenta in front of the cervix when checking that out so wanted to do a vaginal u/s as well to make sure. She mentioned that it seemed to be something called placenta previa (which I had heard of but couldn't really remember details about) but that sometimes it looked different when going from a different angle. After doing the second one she concluded that I do indeed have it but it's only marginal which can actually be a good thing since it means it still might fix itself. Otherwise if the condition doesn't improve she said they always just schedule a c-section for delivery. I'm pretty sure my anti-medical, reacts to every kind of thing, hates the thought of surgery self had a mild heart attack when I heard that! (I kid about the anti-medical part. Sort of.  lol)
Anyway, I didn't actually get to see the doctor since I was only there for the u/s and a short check-up with the nurse so there was really no one to answer my gazillion questions about everything. So I of course googled it as soon as I got home to get some more info. (which I would have done anyway actually since I'm always researching what the doctor says. haha) I'm not really sure yet if that was a good or bad thing in this case though since worse case scenario with placenta previa is actually quite terrifying to think about while on the other end in can totally not end up a big deal at all. The latter being good to know and the former not exactly something I probably needed to have on my mind at the moment!
I won't go into alot of gory details on here but suffice it to say that I am definitely praying for healing and that no further complications come from it. (especially severe ones) I would greatly appreciate your prayers to that affect as well! All kidding aside, I would definitely be willing to have a c-section if I thought it was the best thing for myself and the baby but at this point my hearts desire is still to be able to deliver naturally again so that is what we will hope for until there is reason to believe otherwise. I know God is in control and is completely able to take care of everything if that is His will, as well as also able to give me peace about things if there some reason I need the surgery. I think maybe He is trying to help me learn to just trust Him more lately so I am wanting to do that more than anything rather than worry over something there really isn't much I can do about anyway!
I will be getting checked again and seeing the doctor in a few weeks so please be praying until then and I will be sure to update whenever we find out something new. Thanks so much!

Proudly Announcing....

                       ~Daxton Judah~
(don't you just love the little handprints at the top?!)

Who will hopefully be safely arriving sometime near the end of August! We are beyond thrilled to be having another baby boy. And very thankful that everything looked good with him so far. Now for the interesting details leading up to finding out what he was......

So in the last couple of posts I mentioned that we did a practice ultrasound last week while I was volunteering. Partly for training purposes (of the lady doing it), partly for fun, and partly out of curiosity to find out the gender a few days early. The kids wanted to do a party or something to reveal the surprise and it worked out better to have it this past weekend. Anyway, long story short we were able to see the baby and when trying to figure out what it was got what we thought was a pretty clear picture. My first impression was boy just for a second but after looking more closely it really seemed more like a girl. It was so hard not to be dissapointed since we were really hoping for a boy this time! (and Dathan seriously wanted a baby brother!) Still, we weren't entirely convinced and decided to wait until yesterday to confirm since there's always a chance of being wrong.

But after getting home I looked at lots of pics online, read about how to tell the difference on u/s, and showed it to a couple other people. By the next day we were almost 99% sure it was probably a girl. We still decided to just wait on the party though and maybe just ease the idea by the kids so maybe they wouldn't be totally shocked with the news when they went with us to the doctor. But Dathan accidently saw a message I sent to someone about it and asked what it meant, which of course led to Delancey wanting to know too....altho she wanted us to "surprise" her by telling it in a fun way. So we talked to Dathan and told him we were pretty sure what it was and even let Delancey find out by opening a box of pink balloons. Yes, people, the picture was that convincing!! :-)

Okay, I know ya'll are probably laughing right now but for real we were like grieving over the whole thing at first. I mean, we just so had been thinking it was a boy and already had the name and everything! (that reason being because it was picked out before Delancey was even born) It was a weird feeling knowing that we would love it to death and be thankful for the baby either way, but realizing that our hopes had really been totally up for a boy. Guess we hadn't done the best at being neutral on the whole thing after all....you know, since there is always that 50/50 chance there. So anyway lots of talking, praying, and focusing on that if it was a girl then that was God's will for whatever reason but that it was okay to feel dissapointed went on for the next couple days. As well as scrambling to start coming up with girl names beginning with a "D"! (which unfortunately wasn't going so good, so we're thankful that isn't necassary now! lol) The whole weekend just felt weird since I still had a hard time thinking of it being a girl but telling myself I better hurry up and get used to the idea!

Blake was able to be at the u/s last week so decided not to take off work to come to this one so I asked mom to go with me and the kids. We were all in pretty good spirits and excited to see the baby again. Everyone was accepting of the girl idea by now, except for the whole "no name" thing for me, of course. (I was obsessing over that part just a bit I think. haha) She asked if we wanted to know the gender and we said yes, but that we actually already felt we had a pretty good idea and mostly wanted confirmation. Then lo and behold the very first look was so obviously a boy! It took just a second for it to register with all of us and then we were ecstatic! She got so many good shots of it that there was no doubt what it was this time. ( I promise! lol)

Who knows why all that other crazy stuff happened the way it did?! Maybe the Lord just wanted to help us learn (and show the kids) how to let go of what we wanted or thought was best and trust Him, even if we didn't understand. Whatever the reason, I think He definitely brought us to a place where we were just thankful and accepting of the outcome....and I have to admit that it felt good having that kind of peace. And especially seeing Dathan have it as well. I do think it made the news yesterday just that much more special for all of us! :-)

So there's the long version of the big news! We are so thankful for the good report on the baby and of course that God did grant the desires of our heart in giving us Daxton. Even though the alternative would have definitely been more than okay too! Please keep him in your prayers as he continues to grow and get ready to be born. I will update more later about my own news and health since this has already turned into a short book. haha Until then I will just finish up with these verses that came to mind while looking at the u/s pictures this morning....

"For Thou has possessed my reins; Thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well......How precious also are Thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them." Psalm 139:13,14,17

The Big Day!

Tomorrow is the official ultrasound at the doctor's office! We should be getting a definite on the baby's gender so that we can share the news with everyone. (although as I said before, I think we are like 99% sure already from some of the pics we saw last week!)

The baby and I are both definitely growing. And it's also becoming more active so lots of fun feeling it move around in there. Blake even got to feel his first kick on last Wednesday night....it was so neat to experience that together again! :-) Prayers for my health are still appreciated, as well as lots of praying for this baby to grow well and be born without as many issues as the others. It would be such a blessing to have one who didn't have to suffer quite so much and would be easier to care for. I know God's grace has been sufficient to get us through hard days in the past though so I'm trying to trust that even if He doesn't choose to give us a healthier baby this time that it will still be okay.

Guess that's all for an update at the moment. Can't wait to give you the big news tomorrow!

Pregnancy News

Here's what going on with baby #4! I'm almost 15 weeks now so finally in the 2nd trimester. Hoping the nausea starts easing more as it gets further along. I definitely have a baby bump (as you can see below!) now, but I guess it's time to start showing, right? :)
Between my regular health issues and "normal" pregnancy stuff I've been feeling pretty rough to be honest. But we're hanging in there and know that we'll get through it all eventually. Knowing that the blessings far outweigh the hardships makes it a little easier to deal with. But I have to admit some days I'm just tired and wanting a break.

Had a doctor's appointment today and everything looks good. The nurse said baby is an active little thing. It kept moving away from the doppler while she tried to get the heartbeat so that was funny. The reading was 174 so it was definitely stirred up! :) We get to find out boy or girl at the next app so we're all excited for that. Oh, and I had also gained 3 lbs since the last time but since I actually missed one and rescheduled it had actually been about 7 weeks. I'm telling myself that isn't too bad. And hoping I definitely don't do that between every appointment. lol

So there's a little update on how it's going. I'll be sure to write again when we find out what it is! Last but not least is a picture of the baby bump.....

What We're Up To!

Just a little update on what we've been up to around here the past couple weeks. The month of February seems to be flying by! (except for those days when I'm really nauseated, of course. ha!)

We celebrated my 30th birthday on the tenth. Blake surprised me by staying home from work to help take care of the kids that day since I'd been having a hard week. They brought me breakfast in bed, Dathan gave me a new Bible that he'd secretly asked his dad to buy, and Delancey made me the sweetest card. I got a haircut that afternoon (which I unfortunately do not like) and then we had a yummy, home-cooked supper with my parents and brother that night. All in all, it was a good day.....even if leaving behind the 20's for good was a little bit sad I guess. :-)

Valentine's day was a little rough with me being super sick for most of it. The kids and I had a good day together though and Blake brought home some fun, little gifts and sweets to celebrate. The girls actually ended up going somewhere with Grandma so we got some unusual one-on-one time with Dathan. I think he really liked having his dad all to himself for a change! :-)

And on all the other many "normal" days, we've been mostly hanging out here and just doing life. Lots of laying around time for me with the kids playing together. It's great that the older ones can help with Darcey so much....one good thing about there being a few years difference in age between them! They are all growing like weeds and seem to learn something new or do some crazy funny thing every day. It's really hard not to be able to do alot right now but I'm still thankful to just be here with them.

To wrap things up I guess we're just hanging in there! If we all manage to eat good meals, do a little school work  read or play, and just survive then it's been a good day. :-) As tired as I am at the moment of being sick, I know it will pass one day and I'll forget how tough it really was.....especially in light of how special this new baby is gonna be! Please still keep mine and the baby's health in your prayers in the days to come. And I'll try to check back in again soon......

How We Are

What with the holidays and everything I haven't really taken the time to update after sharing our exciting news. (if you haven't heard yet then click here to see!) So here's a little post about how things are going these days.

The kids are super excited about adding another baby to the family. I was a little worried that they would remember all the long, hard days with Darcey and be upset but they seem totally fine with the idea so far. I know that doesn't mean there won't be hard days that they get tired of but I'm thankful they are eagerly anticipating another sibling anyway! The older 2 are also great about helping out and being pretty independent when I need to rest so that is great too. Darcey of course doesn't understand about the baby yet, but she loves baby dolls and I know she's gonna be a great big sister when the time comes. All in all we just have some awesome kids so adding another one is exciting! :)

As for me, I have had pretty much every emotion there is since finding out I think. Since "morning" sickness has hit me with a vengeance in the past few days then I'm currently in the discouraged, wishing this part was over stage of pregnancy. (remind me again why they call it morning sickness when mine occurs every, waking, minute?!) To say this was a surprise would be an understatement or to say that I was in any way prepared for it would be the opposite, but I am sincerely trying to be thankful for the wonderful blessing that it is to grow another life and to trust the Lord with everything else! My health isn't the best so it's hard on me and those of you who know us well know that our baby's are born with alot of issues as well which makes for long, rough times so that's difficult too. But I'm trying to remember that God's in control, He's always brought us through, and I shouldn't worry too much about the future!

Blake, of course, has been pitching in even more than normal so that I can rest more and not have to move around much when I'm sick. He's thankful and excited about the baby but knows also that there will be hard times too. (before and after it's born) I'm thankful that he helps out like he does since it would be almost impossible for me to do everything alone.

All in all I'd say we are happy, nervous, excited, surprised, anxious, and well, you get the picture! :-) I would greatly appreciate your prayers for a safe, healthy pregnancy for us both. My greatest desire is that this baby will be born healthy, with less allergies, able to breastfeed, and without so much pain that causes constant crying. I am praying constantly that God will touch it and help it in these areas and that I can trust He knows best.

So there's a little update on things around here. I will be sure to check back in as often as I can. (ie:whenever I'm not too nauseated to even feel like typing! lol)
